WORK JARGON
Within a week of working at an Internet marketing company, I know what search engine optimization was, targeted traffic, pay per click, and keyword research are. I know someone else might not understand what those terms mean or, at least, they might not understand what they mean in the context of Internet marketing. They all seem simple enough to me now, but I got used to the work environment I was in and these were the terms being thrown around so I picked them up quickly. I had to if only so I could know what was going on. I also did a little independent research just to be sure. All jobs and industries have their won kind of work language or jargon. My father used to come home from his job as an assistant chief operating engineer and fill out a work report or something and ask me to spell certain terms for him that I couldn’t because I’d never heard of them before. They were jargon.
