OVERWHELMING PROCESS

It’s been one of those days where I wish that when I’d woken up that I’d just rolled back over into bed and slept until tomorrow. But I have to go to work, eat, shower, get my mail, and do all the other things everyone else has to. I should have known that something was wrong when I discovered I had no cereal and couldn’t eat breakfast. Then out in the hallway I slipped on a Lakeview Chicago neighborhood directory and almost tumbled head over heels down the staircase. My train was late and I saw that it was because they were doing construction and that my train was going to keep on being late for the foreseeable future. Late to work, all my projects overwhelmed me for most of the day since I had to hit all my deadlines and I’ve never missed a deadline. It’s a point of pride with me and I still managed to get everything done. It probably wasn’t my best work, but having gotten that work done was better than not having any done. It rained and then hailed on the walk home from the train station and a piece of hail actually struck me in the back of the head and I toppled over. Later that night after dinner, I went through my voicemail and found out my girlfriend, who was in Europe at the time, had broken up with me because she’d met and fallen immediately in love with a French banjo player.
