LONG TIME LAWYER

Mr. John Winston had a good understanding of Merrillville bankruptcy laws. He had been a lawyer for just over 70 years. He has seen it all. But I was concerned that he was not really all there. He was 96 years old. I was amazed when I met with him finally. He remember me, though I hadn’t seen him in 35 years, at least. And I was a kid when I last saw him. He jumped up from behind his desk, with an agility of a man half his age. He extended a hand and his grip was strong. He knew I was here about Jack and Maria. They had told him I would be calling. We went over the situation, with Jack and Maria’s permission, of course. It looked bleak, but Winston said that he had at least one investor that wanted to put money into John and Maria’s business. They were not agreeing though. They didn’t want to give up any control of the business. I can’t blame them, but if the alternative meant filing and huge bills, then I think I would give up some control. This was about their only way out. Winston didn’t want to see them go broke. And he was working pro bono. He didn’t need the money. He was way past that. He had known both their grandparents and parents, so he wanted to see them make it.
